Elise Cook's Favourite Eats in South Australia

Date Posted:17 September 2020

We recently chatted to Elise Cook about her favourite spots in South Australia, in which she noted the beautiful Fleurieu Peninsula, just half an hour from Adelaide City. She had so much to say about the peninsula, which is sprawling with little beachside towns. Many of them are home to some of the greatest eateries in the state, and most notably the the town of McLaren Vale, holds the title as a world-class wine region.

Elise gave us the breakdown of her favourite places to eat in the area, from quiet beach town pubs to fine dining experiences.

Down The Rabbit Hole, McLaren Vale

Starting off with Elise and her husband, Dom's made-with-love winery, Down The Rabbit Hole not only offers a cellar door, but a restaurant too. Down The Rabbit Hole offers a sit-down dining experience for lunch through the week, which is excellent for special occasions. On weekends, the winery provides abundant grazing platters, beautifully thought-out main dishes, and delicious desserts. Husband Dom curated the menu to be 100% organic, gluten-free, and pack with nutrition (while still being delicious).

Victory Hotel, Sellicks Beach

A beach town pub in easygoing Sellicks Beach, The Victory is a lot more than your typical local pub. Using top notch produce and offering an extensive choice of wine from their cellar, Victory Hotel has great views and amazing pub style food.

Maxwell Restaurant, McLaren Vale

The Dining Room Restaurant at Maxwell Winery serves up the most amazing, delicious, and creative fine dining experiences. Definitely a worthy meal for a special occasion, you won't be disappointed. Described as a magical, subterranean setting, Maxwell's offers a dining experience by candlelight inside a lime cave, which is even more idyllic than it sounds.

The Green Room, Willunga

Elise's favourite spot for breakfast, The Green Room offers an organic and vegetarian menu. Cosied up in the beautiful and small historic town of Willunga, this popular cafe is a go-to before a day of exploring the Fleurieu Peninsula.
